I'm back!
I know I've been busy and haven't written in awhile. I've closed a very important chapter in my life and I'm ready for the next. Bring it on! However.......I was just thinking that I've always known that a yankee dime is a kiss but I've never known why. If anyone out there reads my blog, and knows why a yankee dime is a yankee dime, please let me know. I'm curious. Now, lets see, what's up for today. Well, I have read the book of genesis many times but last night I (again) read genisis. How is it that I've read that book so many times and just seem to gloss over the Nephilim. Apparently the Nephilim were beings that were on the earth before and after the great flood of Noah. It is speculated that they were fallen angels who procreated with the sons of man. The bible says that they are the sons of (little "g") god who lay with the daughters of Eve. Could there have been and possibly still be fallen angels tha have the capability to procreate wtih humans? The son's of god can also be translated as the sons of power. I have this weird new fascination with the bible and the origin and translations and language of it. Today I've discovered that the bible never mentions the creatures of the ocean when God tells Noah to gather the creatures that "roam" the earth. He says that He destroyed all the creatures that were "on" earth and flew above earth. Also, He commands Noah to gather "seven" of the each kind of bird but only two of everything else. I find this fascinating but don't put too much weight in it because I know that I know that I know, if it important, God (big "G") would make it implicitly clear. I love God.

Hi Chisme! Scott here with some notes on Genesis for you.
'Sons of God' may refer to descendants of Seth, through whom God's grace would flow, or to angels. The phrase is actually translated 'angels of God' in the Greek OT, the Septuagint. Trouble with whichever translation you choose: sex between people has been expressly encouraged and angels don't have sex (Matt. 22:30). And I've never seen a translation of Genesis 6 with a 'small g' god in it.
'Nephilim' appear to be the offspring of the union between the sons of God and the daughters of men, whoever they were. The word also appears in Numbers 13:33. Most modern translations leave the word untranslated in text, but the KJV translated it as 'giants'. The word is a plural active participle of the Hebrew 'naphal', which means 'to fall'. The best translation of this word may therefore be 'the fallen ones'. Who were they? Who knows!?!
When studying OT narratives it is well to remember that they are selectively written incomplete accounts of the people, places and times they depict. They were written and preserved for their own purposes and cannot be expected to answer all theological questions that may arise when they are read. The author chose to include and exclude details probably known to him/her(?) because what is there is enough for all who would come later.
So the conclusion of this passage must be that man's disobedience and extreme sinfulness is what elicited God's 120 year countdown to the Flood. Whoever these two groups were, the point of the passage remains the same.
We also saw the failure to mention the sea creatures. They partied while the others died?As to the 2- and 7- of each kind of animal, most see this as 2 of every kind except a certain few who will be used later for sacrificial purposes. Again, no reason is given,no species named, so we need to be cautious and not hold onto any one interpretation as if it alone were the truth.
Now for something 'new' for you. Look at Genesis 1:20, 1:27,and 2:7. In all 3 the Hebrew is exactly the same for the phrases 'living creatures' and 'living being'. So what exactly does this mean about the uniqueness of mankind? Don't stay up all night with this one, Gita!
